About us

The Widows Health Foundation (WHF) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to helping low-income widows in Eastern North Carolina remain safely housed after the loss of a spouse. Widowhood often brings grief, financial uncertainty, health challenges, and isolation. We exist to provide compassionate support during that transition.

Our Mission

To provide housing assistance to low-income widows in Eastern North Carolina to help prevent homelessness and financial crisis.

Our Vision

To build a sustainable North Carolina community where widows can access housing assistance, food support, resources, meaningful relationships, and opportunities to give back through charitable service.

Our Values

  • Compassion — We meet every widow with kindness and empathy.

  • Dignity — Every widow deserves respect and honor.

  • Connection — Healing grows through supportive relationships.

  • Integrity — We practice responsible stewardship and transparency.

  • Hope — We believe life after loss can still hold purpose and possibility.

What We Do

We provide housing assistance for eligible low-income widows, including help with rent, mortgage payments, utilities (electric, propane, water, sewage), and home property taxes.

Service Area

WHF serves 41 counties across Eastern North Carolina. Some programs are funded through grants that limit assistance to specific counties, so availability may vary by county and funding cycle.

Why Our Work Matters

Many widows face financial hardship and housing instability while navigating grief and major life changes. WHF works with community partners, volunteers, churches, healthcare providers, businesses, and donors to help widows access essential housing support and remain connected to their communities.

Join Our Mission

Whether you are seeking assistance, volunteering, partnering, or donating, we invite you to join us in ensuring that no widow has to face financial hardship alone.
